Senior Back End Web Developer (ADL)

We are seeking a Senior Back-End Developer to join our Adelaide-based team. You will work alongside our Digital Director and highly skilled team to create websites, applications, infrastructure and tools to solve real-world problems that delight our clients. Your expertise in back-end technologies, problem-solving, and ability to collaborate within your team will be essential in delivering high-quality and innovative digital solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and contribute to the development of web projects for a diverse client base.

Responsibilities: 

• Collaborate with designers, front-end developers and digital producers to understand project requirements, objectives and technical specifications
• Architect and implement scalable and maintainable back-end solutions using appropriate frameworks and technologies
• Ensure code quality, performance and security standards are met by conducting code reviews and implementing best practices
• Integrate third-party APIs and services, ensuring seamless functionality and data exchange
• Optimise application performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure smooth user experiences 
• Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration between front-end and back-end systems
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, frameworks and industry trends to recommend and implement innovative solutions
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior developers, fostering their growth and professional development
• Participate in project planning, estimation and scoping activities, providing technical expertise and recommendations
• Collaborate with all teams to ensure successful project delivery within established timelines and budgets

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Proven work experience as a Back-End Web Developer, with a focus on website application development
• Strong proficiency in the PHP language is a must
• Experience with web frameworks such as Laravel or Symphony
• Experience with CMS systems (WordPress, Craft CMS), beyond the basics is required. The ideal candidate will have experience writing custom plugins, modules or packages to extend these systems
• Expertise in working with databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB, and proficiency in writing efficient database queries
• Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and familiarity with deployment and DevOps practices
• Strong understanding of web application security best practices
• Some familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and ability to collaborate with front-end developers
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with your team
